Bye Bye India!! Thank you very much! ( written by the children)

We have enjoyed our India topic VERY! much. We have enjoyed using our imaginations to write about the country. We have explored the country on Google Earth and compared it to England, we have enjoyed the dancing, singing and being creative.

This week, we tasted lots of different Indian foods and then wrote about them, using describing words and reasons for which foods we enjoyed the most.

We tried mango, samosas, poppadoms, Bombay mix and pomegranante....

...it was exciting trying the pomegranante. We had read about it in a story and couldn't imagine what it would be like. The fruit was full of ruby red jewels!

We used lots of words to describe the food: spicey, delicious, sweet, sour, juicy, crunchy... some of the food was really really hot! Miss Welton laughed soooo much when we rushed to the sink for a cool drink of water!

In Literacy, we have been drawing story maps of the different stories that we've been reading. We made a story map of Ganesh steals the Moon. We then took it in turn with our talk partners to re-tell the story to each other. With the story map to look at, we remembered so much detail. Some of us decided to be the teacher and re-tell the story to the rest of the class. it was easy to remember by looking at the pictures and deciding what came first, next, and sequencing the story correctly.

Here are some pictures of us enjoying the role-play area and dressing up in the Indian clothes and Saris.

Next term, our topic will be Plants. Miss Welton has asked us to do our homework which is labelling the parts of the plant and finding out what each part does and to think about anything that we would like to learn about plants.

Enjoy the half term :-)

Year Ones Fantastic Indian Blog (written by the children)

In Literacy we have been using lots of describing words in our writing to make sentences more exciting!

We are really enjoying the fantastic Indian topic...

This is our Indian role-play area. We play in here and enjoy the Hindu tent. Hindu ladies wear a Sari. They wear a Bindi. It means that you are married.

Indian ladies wear henna on their hands and feet for special occasions. We have enjoyed practising Henna patterns onto laminated cut out hands. We have been making our own Rangoli patterns. Rangolis are put outside for decoration and to welcome in the Hindu Gods. There are thousands of Hindu Gods. Rangoli are made from natural things like spice, flowers, sand, lentils, rice and lots of lovely, interesting, bright colours.

Gareth came into the classroom to talk to us about India because she was born there. We have been using Google Earth to travel to the country of India. We put on our seatbelts and then fly to India from Bedminster. We are learning about the maps of India and the United Kingdom. We know that the United Kingdom has four countries - England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Because we got all of our sweets in the jar, we chose to have a disco during Golden Time. It was fantastic, great, nice... Miss Welton and Penny chose two of the best dancers.

We also had a funky dance workshop in the Sports Hall with a lady from Sainsburys. It was really fun.

We love our Natural World! (written by Year 1)

At the beginning of the Christmas holidays, there was a street lamp parade in Bedminster. Children from the Luckwell paraded lamps that they had made during a workshop. Some children from Year 1 joined in the parade

It was beautiful. It was fun. We held our lanterns that we'd made. It was very bright. Some people had some lanterns to hold. The band was really good and very funny.

We have been thinking about the Natural World:

We held lots of natural things feeling... touching... smoothing them... THINKING!

Here is a picture of us having a 'debate'.

A debate is a big group or a smaller group having a long chat about what they want to do and what the other people want to do. We can find out what other people are thinking and if everybody is happy.

In PE we were doing some fantastic ball control... kicking.... dribbling... controlling the ball. We had to really concentrate.

D.I.S.C.O.!!!

We had a fantastic time at the Disco! Everyone was dressed really nicely and we had so much fun! Miss Welton was so happy that Year 1 were dancing with her.

We played lots of dancing and singing games.

We have had fun making lamps with one of the parent helpers. The lamps are so beautiful. Some of us will go to the Bedminster Lamp Procession this weekend.

When our lamps were finished, we took them down to the school dungeon and turned all of the lights off to watch them shine! It looked fantastic!

We have been busy doing lots of preparing for the build up to Christmas. Here we are drawing colourful Christmas pictures to put into our classroom Advent Calender.

Let the countdown to Christmas begin!!!
