Fun Friday Golden Time!

Our lessons have been a load of old rubbish! Here we are, sorting through a pile of rubbish and putting them into different groups of materials. We have been learning about the 'properties' of materials and know lots of different words, like 'transparent', 'smooth', 'rough', lots of words that describe each material.

We went on a material search around the school to find uses for every day materials....

...This is us finding and recording the different materials that we spotted.

Heather came in to the classroom to give us a talk about how Luckwell does its' recycling. We buy lots of recycled products, like toilet roll and paper. All of or fruit waste becomes compost. The compost bin was pretty stinky!!!

In Number work, we have been using money to do addition and subtraction number sentences, or sums. We have been shopping in our groups and now know how to count and look after our pocket money!

Here we are toy shopping with our partners...

...Here we are ink - stamping with pennies and making repeating patterns.

This group took it in turns to shop in the cafe and had to pay for their dinner before they gobbled it down.

Next week, we are really looking forward to a trip to PlaySpace and making out own recycled paper.

Working Hard in Year One (Written by the children)

We had such a "busy hard hard" week last week, that we didn't have time to do our Blog, so here it is now... ("... means wait for it"...)

...In PE, we were learning how to jump as high as we can. We made our bodies into rocket ships, "launched" ourselves from the bench and landed with bent knees and ankles together. Some of us could jump "sky high!" It is important to land with bent knees or you could really hurt yourself.

We have a Recycling corner in our room, with lots of things that people have made using recycled materials, like cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, tin foil and wood. We enjoy sitting in the corner during choosing time and looking at all the things and reading the books.

We are getting very good at our Number Work. Here we are using 'number sentence' or 'sum' puzzles. We finished it without any help and Miss Welton was very pleased.

Next week, we are looking forward to learning about Materials and having some more recycling fun.

" Year Ones Second Blog" (written by the children)

In Number work this week, "we had fun", working in our groups and "using the multilink cubes to work out more and less". We enjoy our group work and are learning how to share, take it in turns and to listen to each other.

"We are reading a book called 'Olivers Vegetables' in Literacy". We are learning about characters, settings and sequences of a story. "Here we are acting out the story".

It's not all work, work, work and we have plenty of Choosing time as well. "Here we are building a 'bombed bridge'. Seven of us made it and it took up the whole carpet!"

"Outside, we played a 'Rocket game'. We had fun using our imagination and pretending to fall in the water"...

..." We were making a sand cake. We used our imaginations too."

In RE, we have been learning all about different groups. " We have a Year One group"."We have learnt about a group of people who are called Jewish people." "We have learnt all about the things that Jewish people like". The bible that they read is called a Torah and "it is a special book that helps them to pray". Jewish people have lots of special festivals like "Hannukah". "Instead of a church they pray in a Synagogue."

"We love reading in Year One". Here "we are reading our books with lots of cushions so that we can be comfy".

Year Ones First Blog ( written by the children)

It has been a busy busy, busy, busy first week back at school. We have had lots of new things to learn now that we are in Year One. We thought of some class rules so that our new classroom is a happy place to be in and we are thinking of ways to decorate the classroom.

Here we are climbing on the newly painted climbing wall. It is really fun trying to reach the pieces!

We've started to do Year One work, Numeracy...

... and Literacy - here we are discussing a story with our 'talking partners'.

We enjoyed our first PE lesson in Year One. Miss Welton was amazed at how good we were on the climbing frame.

Here we are practising to throw the javelin very far.

Here are the girls hula hooping it was really fun.
