D.I.S.C.O.!!!

We had a fantastic time at the Disco! Everyone was dressed really nicely and we had so much fun! Miss Welton was so happy that Year 1 were dancing with her.

We played lots of dancing and singing games.

We have had fun making lamps with one of the parent helpers. The lamps are so beautiful. Some of us will go to the Bedminster Lamp Procession this weekend.

When our lamps were finished, we took them down to the school dungeon and turned all of the lights off to watch them shine! It looked fantastic!

We have been busy doing lots of preparing for the build up to Christmas. Here we are drawing colourful Christmas pictures to put into our classroom Advent Calender.

Let the countdown to Christmas begin!!!

Thursday 17 November 2011

There's been another birthday in Year 1! We are growing up so quickly!

We have had lots of fun in our classroom Toy Shop, writing shopping lists and making change to pay for the toys.

In Number work, we have been learning how to measure capacity, using sand and water and estimating the capacity of objects.

It has been Anti-bullying week and we have been talking about what bullying is and making posters to help people to understand about bullying.

We had a special assembly with Professor Positive and Nasty Nik - "Sticks and Stones may break our bones, but names can hurt us too..."

Next week, we will be making our Toy Shop into a Toy Museum, like the one that we visited at Blaise. We are going to invite Mr Jones and Mrs Shore and our grown-ups to come and visit our Toy Museum.

First week back....

We all had fun preparing for fireworks night. We learnt all about Guy Fawkes, and how 400 years ago, he blew up the Houses of Parliament to kill King James. We all had fun drawing pictures of fireworks and singing firework songs and making up actions and sounds for the different fireworks.

We have been using the recycled materials instruments and playing in the sand and water...

We have been using our phonic knowledge in Literacy to think up rhyming words and making poems.

In PE we have been learning how to throw both underarm and overarm and as high as we can!

Recycle, recycle, recycle!!!

We have had a lot of fun this week putting the finishing touches to our fantastic recycled costumes and practising our catwalk modelling.

Miss Welton was very, very pleased with our class assembly. Because the Luckwell value for this term has been Communication, we chose to sing our recycling songs to the rest of the school, to promote our recycling message in a different way. We also showed of some of our incredible recycled costumes to the rest of the school.

We had a fantastic time performing the Recycled Fashion Show. Lots of parents came to watch and some of the teaching staff and Mr Jones. Although some of us were very nervous, we did a fantastic job of walking down the catwalk in time to the music and showing of our costumes. There were so many incredible costumes, from a peacock to a mermaid! As we did such a great job of performing, Miss Welton gave us not one, not two, but three sweets in the jar!!! The jar is now full and so in the new term, we will be having a cinema with popcorn during Golden Time as our treat!
