Some busy weeks we have had.... (written by the children)

We made a toy museum of old-fashioned toys and new toys. We opened the museum and showed our parents around. Everybody welcomed them and Emily gave out the tickets which cost 10p (not real money). Mrs Roberts came too and she was shown around the museum by Austen.
On Friday, Year 1 made a spell and tried to turn Professor Snape into a frog. Our spell had dragon tears, rat pooh, frogs eyes, monster toes, dog bone, lizard tongues and gold dust. Domi and Aaron held the caudron and stirred it. Our amazing spell really worked! Professor Snape went 'ribbett!' and lost his voice!
Here we all are writing up the spell.

We made some Stain-glass window biscuits which are really christmassie and tasted yummy! In our classroom we are getting ready for Christmas and practicing for the nativity next week.

A musical Week (written by Year 1)

We have had a musical week of dancing fun, singing and listening to different types of music. For our dance workshop, Rachel taught us how to warm up and 'get your blood moving around' (Lainnie) Here we are learning some Street Dance sequences. Some of us may go to the Street Dance classes.

We had a man called Celsa, from Mozambique, South Africa, playing the drums, singing and telling us stories about African animals. We joined in with the drumming.

We had extra Golden Time this week for winning the Golden Lunchbox and for being good at lunchtime. This makes us all feel happy and Miss Welton is very proud. We are looking forward to our Recycled Fashion show next week.

A Load of Old Rubbish...

This week, we had a visit from Heather. Heather is the Caretaker of our school and she told us what happens to the recycling that we do in the classroom and how our fruit waste becomes compost. She works hard to make sure that everything that we recycle gets taken to the right place.

We've been using our imaginations to think of interesting characters and settings for stories. Liam invented a story about Miss Welton climbing up a beanstalk in the allotment and finding a magic key to rescue us all! What a fantastic imagination Liam has got!

Because we got all 16 (pretend) sweets in our class jar, at the end of the week,we wanted to have a fancy dress party as a treat. The classroom was filled with lots of interesting characters! There were 3 Batmen and even a Batgirl!.

We had some party food and played some party games and had a really fun afternoon. When we get another 16 sweets in the jar, we have decided that as a treat, we will bring in our own toys to play with during Golden Time.

An Exciting Week In Year One... ( written by the class)

We went for a trip to the allotments to look for things that were recycled. We found lots of recycled things; milk cartons, CDs, recycled fruit and vegetables to make compost, we even saw a recycled bath being used to keep the rain water in!

There was a scarecrow wearing recycled clothes. It was a lovely, beautiful sunny day.

Here we are, the Year One, Recycling Fun Band, practising for our assembly next week. We are using instruments made with recycled materials, like tin cans, pots and pans, lids and beads.

Miss Welton was very pleased with our quiet reading this week. Here are the Moon group reading so beautifully on the cushions, they didn't even know that the picture was being taken!

It has been a fun and exciting week.

A New Start For Year One (written by the children of Year 1)

It has been a fun couple of weeks starting in Year One. We have met our new class teacher, Miss Welton, again after the long summer holiday. We have learnt new class rules. We have had to decorate the classroom. Here we are doing some painting for our number work display.

We like our new outdoors play area. Here we are playing in the sand...

... and the water.

We are learning new things in our new classroom and Miss Welton makes us work very hard.

We are learning about Jewish people and their religion. Here we are with the Kippah and Torah and other things that Jewish people use.

We had fun acting out Olivers Vegetables, a book that we are reading in Literacy. The book has four characters, Oliver, Grandpa, Grandma and Mum. The setting is in Grandpas garden. Here we are acting out the story.

We have all been working very hard now that we are in Year One. We are looking forward to a relaxing weekend of playing.

Thank you and goodbye

This week we performed our version of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' for the school and our Mums and Dads.
Everyone put in lots of hard work and the play was a great success.

Thank you to Mrs Clifton and Mrs Scragg for helping make the fairies wings.

Year 1 made an amazing 'baby cake' for Mrs Thwaites and we shared it in the classroom on Monday. It was delicious!

Mrs Thwaites would like to thank all the parents and children for the lovely gifts you gave me and the baby! You have all been so generous and supportive this year.

I would also like to thank year 1 who have worked really hard all year. You have been a very special class and I am a very lucky teacher to have had you for two years. I will miss you lots!
Bye bye!

Once upon a time

This week we have been reading and retelling a range of traditional stories.
We all enjoyed tyring out different voices for the characters, especially the 'Big Bad Wolf'!

On Tuesday we used props and costumes to tell the stories of 'Little Red Riding Hood', 'the Three Little Pigs' and 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'.

It was really funny and had lots of pzazz! (Oscar)

We are going to have a go at writing our own stories next week. perhaps with a few changes!

Thursday 20 May 2010

This week in Music we have been learning about the orchestra and how different instruments are used to represent different animals.
We enjoyed listening to 'Peter and the Wolf'.
We made up our own animal music stories.
In Literacy we finished our recounts. Mrs Thwaites was very pleased with our writing. Now we are helping to write a story about a boy called Jake and his dog bones.

We are still enjoying our animals topic.

On Thursday we made butter - yum!

It took a lot of shaking!
