The Georgian House

On Monday Y1 went on a trip to the Georgian House. We had to dress up as servants. It was hard work but it was fun. We found out that if we were real servants, we would only get 2 days holiday a year and we would have to start work at 5 o'clock in the morning. The servants had to do lots of jobs like cooking, cleaning, ironing and washing. In this picture we are learning to iron and fold up clothes and sheets.
Here are two children carpet beating, they are trying to get all the dust and dirt out because they didn't have vacuum cleaners.
Here are Y1 all dressed up.

Road safety, money & drawing

On Wednesday a man called Louis came to Luckwell to do a road safety show. He taught us how to cross the road safely.

This is star group doing some money maths.
We are drawing pictures of our houses using rulers. When we finished we had to colour them in.

Measuring and materials

This week in maths Y1 have been doing lots of measuring. We measured the weight, length and capacity of different objects. We have also been learning about standard units such as litres, kilograms and centimetres. In science we have been thinking about materials and what objects are made of. The picture below shows us on a materials hunt.

lovely summer

Today we went to the courts to learn to play tennis with a man called Pete. We did lots of practising. We learnt there were three ways to hit a ball, over head, with a bounce and with no bounce. There are four ways to move on a tennis court, kriss kross, sideways, forwards and backwards.

Yesterday we had a mix up and went with different teachers and different children. We went on a plant hunt all around the school and across the road to the courts and the park. We were spotting, finding, drawing and feeling plants. It was fun.
